MEET OUR SPEAKERS

Philip O. Ogunbona

Philip O. Ogunbona is a professor of computer science at the University of Wollongong, Australia, with extensive experience in machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing. He holds a PhD from Imperial College, London, and has published over 200 scholarly articles with more than 6,500 citations. Philip will be one of the distinguished speakers at the First Technical Webinar of the Practical Artificial Intelligence Development Foundation (PAIDef), scheduled for 12th October 2024. In his session, titled "Restoring Diacritics in Nigerian Languages: Challenges and Solutions," Philip will provide an overview of the NLP pipeline, emphasizing the critical role of diacritics in Nigerian languages and their importance for tasks like sentiment analysis, translation, and text generation. As part of the demonstration, he will showcase the work of Orife and colleagues, including snippets from their published source code on GitHub.

Chiamaka Chukwuneke

Chiamaka Chukwuneke is a researcher at Lancaster University, specializing in Natural Language Processing. She holds an MSc in Software Engineering from Nnamdi Azikiwe University. She has 13 years of experience in both the IT industry and academia. Chiamaka will be a featured speaker at the First Technical Webinar of the Practical Artificial Intelligence Development Foundation (PAIDeF), which will be held online on 12th October 2024. The event's theme is "Data Curation Techniques for NLP Resources in Nigeria," and her session, titled "Creation of NLP Resources in Igbo Language: Tools and Techniques," will explore practical methods for gathering Igbo language datasets for various NLP tasks..

Abdulqahar Mukhtar Abubakar

Abdulqahar Mukhtar Abubakar is a Senior Data Analyst at Ihope Global Services, specializing in Natural Language Processing (NLP). He holds a BSc in Computer Science from Yusuf Maitama Sule University Kano and an MTech in Data Science from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, India. Abdulqahar will be a speaker at the First Technical Webinar of the Practical Artificial Intelligence Development Foundation (PAIDeF) on 12th October 2024. His session, titled "Methods for Developing NLP Resources for the Hausa Language," will demonstrate practical approaches for gathering Hausa language datasets for various NLP tasks.
